Björn Appelqvist Elected to the ISWA Board; Antonis Mavropoulos Re-Elected ISWA President

Last week at the ISWA General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ISWA???s National Members voted in a new Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) Chair to serve a four-year term on the ISWA Board. Long-standing ISWA Member, Björn Appelqvist was selected by the ISWA National Members to serve this position. Björn currently serves as Chair of the Working Group on Recycling and Waste Minimisation and has been Head of Department for Waste and Resource Management for ISWA Gold Member Ramboll since 2016, prior to which he spent 16 years in the industry in various positions for contractors, as well as public authorities. The ISWA Board look forward to working with Björn over the coming years as they look to refresh and implement a new scientific strategy, with greater emphasis on circular economy.

ISWA would like to express its sincere gratitude to Luís Marinheiro who stepped in as interim Chair earlier this year, and also to previous STC Chair Bettina Kamuk for her years of service on the ISWA Board.

Furthermore, Antonis Mavropoulos was unanimously mandated to serve a second two-year term as ISWA President. The National Members welcomed Antonis??? vision for ISWA at the General Assembly in which he and the board presented a clear new vision and strategy for ISWA, where large aspects of a new business model were agreed upon during the discussions in Kuala Lumpur. ???I am proud to be re-elected ISWA President and I would like to express my gratitude to the National Members who have put their faith in me for the coming two years as we look to shape ISWA into an association fit for the future.??? said ISWA President Antonis Mavropoulos.

As President, Antonis will oversee the relocation of ISWA???s Headquarters to Rotterdam, Netherlands, and will work with the Managing Director and General Secretariat on implementing ISWA???s new strategy.

Carlos Silva Filho (Vice President), Derek Greedy (National Member Representative), Weine Wiqvist (Treasurer), Ho De Leong (RDN Asia Pacific), and Gary Crawford (Organisation Member Representative) were all re-elected to serve another two-year term. They join Atilio Savino (RDN Latin America), Alexei Atudorei (RDN SEMEM), Doron Sapir (National Member Representative), and James Law (Organisation Member Representative).
