Feb 17, 2022 | ISWA blog, ISWA news

We are very saddened to learn of the death of  Mr Alberto ‘Tito’ Bianchini, ABRELPE’s founder and former ISWA Board Member.

Current ISWA members that worked with Mr. Bianchini have shared their words and memories with us below.

If you would like to add your memories to the below, or share some words send us an email.

TESTIMONIES

Tito Bianchini, as he was mostly known by his friends was the founder and former President  of ABRELPE and former ISWA Board Member representing Latin America RDN.

He was a visionary when, in 1976, together with some other pioneers founded the Brazilian Association of Waste Management Companies, and again, in 1996, when he pushed ABRELPE to apply for the ISWA National Membership in Brazil, joining the ISWA family.

But besides that we was a good friend and a Professor for many of us, who had the chance and the honor to enjoy his friendship.

We’ll certainly miss his presence – always with a new joke – but his enthusiasm and determination to fight for the accomplishment of ISWA’s mission will last forever.

Carlos Silva Filho, ISWA President

Brazil

Alberto Bianchini, or Tito as his friends knew him, was this kind of person without a single drop of selfishness and with a great commitment with what he felt was his mission: To make ISWA visible and strong in Brazil and in the LAC region.

Fighting with the language he has been present and active in any circumstance he was needed.

Of course at this moment a lot of anecdotes came to my mind – I will share two of them.

The first, a colloquial one: After a Board meeting , I think it was in Paris, he appeared with his wife and his daughter, to teach us, with all the ingredients, how to prepare the best caipirinha.

The second, an institutional one : In the first Board meeting after his election he introduced us a young professional who he said will serve as his assistant. Certainly this was another great contribution to ISWA, as the young professional was Carlos Silva Filho, our current president.

Remembering his smile, I propose a toast in honour of his memory.

Atilio Savino, Regional Development Network Representative for the Latin America Region

Argentina

I still remember Tito back in 2008 in Singapore, the night before the General Assembly. It was the second time I was meeting him and despite the language difficulties I admired his passion for advancing waste management in Brazil and his deep business knowledge. But mostly, I admired his passion for life, his vividness.

As I had the pleasure to work with him for several years, I realize that Tito was a man outside the usual standards. A man who left a great career in TV to build one of the first waste management companies in Brazil. A visionary that understood the need for international networks and cooperation. A passionate promoter of ABRELPE and ISWA.

Thanks to Tito I learnt a lot for business, waste and life. Thanks to him I made one of my best friends, our President Carlos. Because this is one of ISWA’s best advantages: you meet and connect with extraordinary people.

My good friend Tito, I will say goodbye to you drinking a caipirinha and singing with you your favorite song “Triste”.
